Blood in cat’s stool may be a cause for concern and may not be a cause for concern. However, bloody stools do indicate some kind of a problem in the cat’s digestive system. If they are a one time thing then they are nothing to be worried about. On the other hand, if they appear frequently or last for more than 2 days or the blood is in more quantity, there is something to be worried about. Also, when a cat uses more than necessary force to excrete or there is an increment in the frequency of your cat’s daily bowel movement is when you should be concerned. These symptoms may also persist with a decrease in weight and appetite coupled with an increase in thirst and urination. The cat may also vomit and get diarrhea.

Causes of Bloody Stools in Cats

  • A lot of things can cause bloody stool in cats, one of them being hard feces. This can adversely affect the rectum and anus which results in a little bleeding. The hardening of feces is caused by a diet low in fiber.
  • Intestinal parasites such as worms can also cause bloody stool. These parasites (Giardia and coccidian) enter the stomach and harm the digestive system of cats resulting in bloody stool. Alongside, bacterial infections like colitis may also result in blood in stool. It causes inflammation of the bowel.
  • A cat may also experience a bloody stool if its stomach or bowel is aggravated. The anal glands on both sides of the anus become in contact with each other and result in bloody stool. The presence of polyps can also cause bloody stool along with any strain on either the anus or the lower intestine.
  • A bloody stool is also cause by antibiotics. In older cats, it can also be an indicator of cancer in its lower bowels.

The Solution or Treatment of Cat Bloody Stool

If you spot a bloody stool, do not panic! Instead, figure out the reason behind such an occurrence. If it is because of the hardening of stool, then, change the food supplement of your cat, replacing the normally used with one that is high in fiber and low in fats.

However, it is advised that if the symptoms are dire then take the cat to a veterinarian. He will carry out a few tests and figure what the problems is. If it is an infection, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics. The problem we face here is that even antibiotics cause blood in stool. Thus, they must be avoided.

The solution at hand is to go for natural remedies or homeopathy. These help not only in alleviating the situation but also in strengthening the digestive and immune system of the cat. The first remedy on these lines is avoiding commercial cat food and substituting it with the unprocessed one. The artificial ingredients used in producing commercial food are very harmful for the cat’s digestive system. Thus, this change in the cat’s food will prevent the cat from having a bloody stool in future.

You must also increase the water intake of your cat and give it homeopathic medicine. Although this will take a longer time than taken by the usual treatment to improve the cat’s condition, it will be more lasting.
