It seems that the number of mentally sick people is on the rise as more and more incidents of burning of cats are reported in Australian continent. Today, a 19 months old family cat, Snowy, was found with severe burns and signs of cuts. According to a story as published in SMH:

A family cat is fighting for his life in Sydney after apparently being set alight in an incident described by the RSPCA as a callous act of animal cruelty. Snowy, a 19-month-old domestic longhair, crawled back to his Bankstown home about 4am (AEST) on Saturday suffering severe burns to most of his body.

He was found by his distraught owners with cut ears and evidence of tape on his legs as well as the horrific burn injuries.

Mr Oshannessy said Snowy had been sedated and was on pain relief while undergoing treatment at the RSPCA’s Sydney Veterinary Hospital. Vets are unsure if he will survive. “We are significantly worried about him at the moment because he has burns to a large majority of his body,” Mr Oshannessy said.

“Vets are just cleaning his wounds and are hopeful that he will respond to treatment.” If he pulls through, the recovery process could take months. Mr Oshannessy said the attack on Snowy had particularly affected RSPCA staff. “He would have suffered significant pain as a result of the injuries sustained,” he said. “And if he is to recover, he is going to have a long and difficult road to recovery.” The maximum offence for serious animal cruelty is five years’ imprisonment under the Crimes Act.

Mr Oshannessy is calling for anyone with information to contact the RSPCA on 02 9770-7555 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. “We are talking about a young animal who is essentially defenceless, who has endured significant suffering as a consequence of the offender’s actions,” he said.

This is not the first time such sick act was committed in the country. In March, 2010, a similar act took place in Perth where a cat was burned to death with kerosene oil. You can find that story here.

What do you say about such incidents? Do you think such incidents should just be punished by five years of prison or more severe punishment is required?

The punishment should be much harsher but first they must be found and every effort should be made to investigate and make this hideous person accountable. It might make another sick person think twice before they commit such a horrendous act if they see this person caught and jailed – I imagine it wouldn’t be much fun in jail when other inmates know what they are in for. The crime itself makes me incredibly sad and angry but even more infuriating is the thought that they are not caught and not made to pay.

What kind of sick, sad, pathetic piece of crap could do something like that? Maybe they should be doused in gasoline and set on fire so they know what its like… Anyone who could do something like that to a helpless animal is severely disturbed and should be locked up before they hurt any other animals or people.

Thanks Dee for your comments. I agree the person who commit such crimes should be severely punished since he/she has the capability to do it to any one else including humans!

When i hear stories about this it makes me sick to the stomach and very angry. How can anyone be so evil and hurt another living creature. The punishment is not enough they should be jailed longer it is just as bad as murdering someone.
